Acupuncture
Acupuncture is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Taoist philosophy, which has been refined of the past 5000 years to presently integrate elements of contemporary western biomedical knowledge. As a system of medicine, TCM employs a variety of modalities, including acupuncture, to treat a diversity of ailments.
Acupuncture stimulates the balance and flow of Qi (vital energy) that in TCM is considered essential to health. When the body is healthy, Qi flows smoothly through the meridians that make up a network of pathways or channels throughout the entire body. When the balance or flow of Qi is deficient or obstructed it may be diseased or susceptible to illness. Based on the foundation of yin/yang, acupuncture treats both the symptoms and the root causes of the patient’s illness. Acupuncture uses with the five elements and eight principles to diagnose and treat imbalances in the meridians and internal organs. In western medicine, the yin/yang balance that acupuncture and other TCM modalities achieve is known as homeostasis.
The insertion of tiny needles in different areas of the body along channels or meridians releases muscle tension, alleviate pain, and regulate the nervous system. The needles remain in place for 20-40 minutes, depending upon your individual diagnosis. The use of a specialized TDP (infared heating lamp) or other modalities such as cupping (glass or silicon cups used to provide tissue suction or a "reverse massage" ), tui na (Chinese massage), gua sha (gentle skin scraping with a jade tool), moxibustion (burning of the herb mugwort), and Traditional Chinese medicine dietary and lifestyle guidance may be added to your treatment to maximize the healing potential. It should not be painful but a variety of sensations will be experienced depending upon the individual. This Acupuncture treatment will include an initial intake and evaluation of your condition and create a diagnosis that will guide treatments.
Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care system that blends modern scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine. It is based on the healing power of nature and it supports and stimulates the body’s ability to heal itself. Naturopathic medicine is the art and science of disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention using natural therapies including: botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, hydrotherapy, homeopathy, naturopathic manipulation, traditional Chinese medicine/acupuncture, lifestyle counselling and health promotion and disease prevention.
Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy that aims to work in combination with your body's own healing mechanisms to restore balance and optimal function. The principles of osteopathy are based upon the relationship between structure and function and an understanding of the connection between all tissues, fluids and systems in the body. As a holistic practice we look beyond the area of pain to identify any barriers to health and use a hands on approach to guide the body towards healing. Using careful palpation and manual techniques, the osteopathic practitioner seeks to influence joints, muscles, circulation, and viscera to improve the relation between structure and function, leaving you feeling stronger and pain free. Some of the most common complaints that people may consult an Osteopathic Practitioner for are; back pain, neck pain, tension headaches, postural issues, repetitive strain injuries, postural issues, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, arthritis, knee or foot pain.
